CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Veteran guard Collin Sexton has quickly established himself as a key voice in the Charlotte Hornets locker room, head coach Charles Lee said on October 19, 2025.
Lee praised the 26-year-old for setting the tone with his daily work habits and for speaking up when needed. “Everyone sees how hard he works every day, so he’s already leading by example,” the coach noted, adding that Sexton’s competitiveness and vocal approach have earned teammates’ respect. Lee said Sexton’s on-ball defense has also raised the starting unit’s intensity.
Sexton arrived in Charlotte over the summer in a trade with Utah. Asked about his leadership style, he said it stems from confidence and authenticity. “I always try not to just fit in — I have to continue to be me,” he explained. “When things aren’t going well, we need someone who can pull the guys back together, and that’s something I can do.”
The guard is entering the final season of his contract, which will pay nearly $19 million in 2025-26. Sexton insisted the looming free agency is not a distraction. “I have to be where my feet are,” he said. “I can’t look two weeks or two months ahead. I’m grounded by faith and my family, and when I’m grounded by those two things, nothing is impossible.”
Sexton also spoke about developing chemistry with LaMelo Ball and rookie Brandon Miller, describing the relationships as another step toward building a winning culture in Charlotte.
