The NBA has issued a $35,000 fine to Chicago Bulls guard Collin Sexton for making an inappropriate gesture during Monday’s 123-115 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, the league announced on Tuesday.
The incident occurred with 1:31 remaining in the third quarter at United Center. After missing the first of two free throws and converting the second, Sexton stared at the rim and extended his middle finger while the Nets prepared to inbound the ball.
The game marked Sexton’s second appearance with Chicago after being acquired from the Charlotte Hornets last week. The 25-year-old finished with 21 points and five rebounds in 32 minutes.
The penalty represents a small fraction of Sexton’s $18,975,000 salary for the season. The guard is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
