The Los Angeles Clippers have upgraded 23-year-old shooting guard Kobe Sanders from a two-way agreement to a standard NBA contract, the team announced on social media.
Sanders has become a steady part of head coach Tyronn Lue’s rotation during his rookie campaign. Over 43 appearances, he is averaging 7.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 21.5 minutes per game while shooting 44.8% from the field, 38.1% from three-point range and 81.4% at the foul line.
The Michigan native joined the Clippers on a two-way contract after being selected 50th overall in last year’s draft and subsequently acquired from the New York Knicks in a draft-night trade.
Los Angeles had been carrying only 13 players on standard contracts, a situation that limited the club to a combined 90 appearances from its two-way players. Elevating Sanders — along with the expected addition of guard Dalano Banton on a 10-day contract — removes that restriction.
