Kawhi Leonard poured in 31 points on Sunday before departing with a sprained left ankle, and the Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Sacramento Kings, ending the club’s four-game winning streak.
Leonard’s scoring output marked his 45th consecutive game with at least 20 points, establishing a new franchise record. The previous mark of 44 straight 20-point performances was held by Bob McAdoo during the 1974-75 season, when the organization was known as the Buffalo Braves.
The injury occurred with 9:27 left in the fourth quarter while Leonard was defending DeMar DeRozan. After landing awkwardly, the forward backpedaled, then dropped to the floor. He rose quickly but limped to the bench and headed to the locker room. Leonard did not return, and the team offered no immediate timetable for his status.
Los Angeles could not recover in his absence, absorbing the defeat that halted its recent surge.
