Checking NBA Rosters: 10-Day Contracts, Pending Signings, and Open Spots

With the deadlines for two-way contracts and playoff eligibility for waived players now passed, NBA roster movement is expected to slow as the 2025-26 regular season enters its final weeks. Here is where each club stands on short-term deals, pending transactions, and available roster slots.

Active 10-Day Contracts

Just two 10-day agreements remain league-wide after Killian Hayes’ deal with Sacramento expired Wednesday night:

  • Utah Jazz: Mo Bamba — expires March 7
  • Brooklyn Nets: Grant Nelson — expires March 8

No new 10-day pacts have been signed in nearly a week, but teams historically ramp up short-term additions in March. Last season, 23 such contracts were executed between March 6 and the end of the schedule, with several players eventually earning rest-of-season deals.

Pending Transaction

Denver’s agreement with veteran point guard Tyus Jones, reached Monday, has not yet been formally announced. The Nuggets already have an open roster spot, so no corresponding move is required. Jones practiced with the team Wednesday and is expected to be available Thursday against the Lakers.

Teams With One Open Roster Spot

  • Golden State Warriors
  • Houston Rockets
  • Orlando Magic
  • Sacramento Kings
  • Toronto Raptors

Denver will leave this group once Jones is officially signed. Utah and Brooklyn could join if they decline to re-sign Bamba or Nelson after their current 10-day deals expire.

Golden State and Houston are already in luxury-tax territory and may hesitate to add salary that would raise their tax bills. Orlando, Sacramento, and Toronto sit less than $1 million below the tax line but still have room to sign a veteran to a minimum rest-of-season contract without crossing that threshold.

Boston’s Three Vacancies

The Celtics currently have only 12 players under standard contracts after 10-day stints for Dalano Banton and John Tonje ended over the weekend. Boston plans to stay at 12 for the maximum 14 days allowed, then elevate two-way guard Max Shulga in mid-March and add a 15th player on the regular season’s final day. The timing is designed to satisfy roster minimum rules while avoiding the luxury tax.

Across the league, clubs still have flexibility to tweak rosters, but the pace of transactions is expected to be more measured as the calendar turns toward the postseason.
