The Boston Celtics plan to add free-agent forward Ron Harper Jr., according to a report by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype on Aug. 16.
Contract terms were not disclosed, but league sources expect Boston to offer a non-guaranteed training-camp agreement that includes Exhibit 10 language.
Harper, 25, went undrafted out of Rutgers in 2022 and has appeared in 11 NBA games over parts of three seasons on two-way contracts with the Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons. Detroit waived him in July.
This marks the second consecutive summer in which the 6-foot-6 wing will sign with Boston; he joined the Celtics ahead of the 2024-25 season but was waived last October.
Harper spent most of last year in the G League, averaging 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.9 steals in 37 games with the Motor City Cruise and Maine Celtics. He connected on 38.6 percent of his three-point attempts while taking 8.2 threes per game.
If Boston releases him before the 2025-26 season, the Exhibit 10 deal could earn Harper a bonus of up to $85,300 if he logs at least 60 days with the Maine Celtics. Exhibit 10 contracts may be converted into two-way deals, though Boston currently has no two-way openings.
Once the signing becomes official, the Celtics will have 19 players under contract, two below the offseason limit of 21.
