The Boston Celtics have risen to third place in the Eastern Conference after securing five consecutive victories, and injured forward Jayson Tatum has started one-on-one workouts while recovering from a torn Achilles.
Despite the encouraging progress, head coach Joe Mazzulla said no timetable has been set for the 25-year-old star’s return. “It’s all up to him,” Mazzulla told reporters, according to The Athletic’s Jay King. “His health is the most important thing. His process is the most important thing.”
Any decision on Tatum’s comeback will involve multiple parties, including the Celtics’ front office, the team’s medical department, and the player’s personal doctors, Mazzulla added, emphasizing that Tatum’s camp will not act alone.
While sidelined, Tatum has remained actively involved with the club. “The only thing I care about is his presence and his leadership,” Mazzulla said. “He’s helping us get better—on the bench, in film sessions, traveling with us. He’s part of our team, and everything else comes down to him and the people around him.”
For now, Boston appears committed to a cautious approach as Tatum continues rehabilitation and the team’s momentum builds.
