The Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks are weighing their options as the trade deadline approaches, according to a report from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Celtics focused on value, not tax savings

Boston has signaled it will not package a first-round pick with Anfernee Simons’ $27.7 million expiring deal solely to reduce luxury-tax liability, the report said. The front office is open to moving the guard, but only for a return it views as meaningful.

The Chicago Bulls recently floated a framework that would have sent Nikola Vučević to Boston for Simons and a first-rounder; the Celtics declined. A broader concept with the Los Angeles Clippers—Simons, a first-round pick and a swap for Ivica Zubac and salary filler—also stalled, partly because the Clippers have surged in the standings and prefer to keep Zubac.

Boston continues to monitor front-court upgrades while deciding whether to tap into its current depth. Neemias Queta has performed well as a starter, and Luka Garza has steadied the backup role. Chris Boucher and Xavier Tillman have drawn exploratory calls, with the Hawks, 76ers and Suns among the teams that have checked on Boucher.

Timberwolves taking calls, not cutting core

Minnesota is fielding inquiries on Naz Reid, Jaden McDaniels and Donte DiVincenzo, Scotto reported. The organization regards McDaniels as “borderline untouchable,” while Reid and DiVincenzo would only be available in a deal that brings back an All-Star-level player.

Knicks willing to use protected 2026 pick

The New York Knicks have told other clubs they are prepared to include the Wizards’ top-eight-protected 2026 first-round pick in negotiations. League executives still view that pick as valuable—even if it ultimately converts to second-round selections—because of Washington’s long-term rebuilding timeline.

The report indicates all three teams remain active in discussions but are setting high thresholds for parting with key assets.
