The Boston Celtics have brought in center Charles Bassey on a 10-day contract, the club confirmed.
The agreement is Bassey’s fourth short-term deal of the season. The five-year NBA veteran previously signed 10-day contracts with the Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers earlier in the campaign.
Bassey, 6-foot-10, has spent most of 2023-24 in the G League, averaging 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks over 20 games split between the Santa Cruz Warriors and Delaware Blue Coats.
Selected 53rd overall by Philadelphia in the 2021 draft, the Western Kentucky product logged three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs before his recent 10-day stints. He also made an impression on Boston’s staff during July’s Las Vegas Summer League, posting 15.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest in three outings.
Boston had been carrying a 12-man roster while managing luxury-tax concerns. Under the new deal, Bassey will be paid $153,330, with a salary-cap hit of $131,970 during the 10-day period.
