The Boston Celtics are set to bring in free-agent center Charles Bassey on a 10-day contract, according to league sources cited by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

The deal will mark Bassey’s fourth 10-day agreement of the 2025-26 campaign. The five-year veteran previously spent one 10-day stint with the Memphis Grizzlies under a hardship exception early in the season, followed by back-to-back 10-day contracts with the Philadelphia 76ers in late January and early February.

Outside of three NBA appearances this season, the 25-year-old has played primarily in the G League. Splitting time between the Santa Cruz Warriors (17 games) and the Delaware Blue Coats (three games), he averaged 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks while shooting 60.6% from the field, 42.6% from beyond the arc and 65.4% at the free-throw line over 29.9 minutes per contest.

Bassey entered the league as the 53rd pick in the 2021 draft by Philadelphia. After one season with the Sixers, he joined the San Antonio Spurs, where injuries limited his availability. A non-displaced patella fracture cut short his 2022-23 season, and a torn ACL in December 2023 sidelined him for the remainder of that campaign. He returned in 2024-25, appearing in 36 games for San Antonio and posting 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 10.4 minutes a night.

The 6-foot-10 big man impressed the Celtics during July’s Summer League in Las Vegas, recording 15.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per outing on 70.4% shooting across three games.

Boston has been carrying only 12 players on standard contracts for the past two weeks while maneuvering below the luxury-tax threshold. In addition to signing Bassey, the team will need to add one more player to reach the league-minimum roster size.

Under the terms of the deal, Bassey will earn $153,330, with the Celtics incurring a $131,970 salary-cap charge during the 10-day period.
