Boston — New majority owner Bill Chisholm secured control of the Celtics after submitting a bid roughly $100 million higher than the next offer and $500 million above minority shareholder Steve Pagliuca’s fully funded proposal, according to The Boston Globe. The franchise agreed to sell in March 2025, granting Chisholm until December 31 to complete funding. He spent the ensuing months lining up minority investors, and the NBA’s Board of Governors signed off on the transaction in August. Chisholm said a breakup fee worth several hundred million dollars would have applied had he failed to raise the capital, calling the move his “biggest calculated risk.”
Brown Shoulders Blame After Missed Free Throws
Jaylen Brown scored 34 points Monday against Detroit but went 7-for-14 at the foul line in a game Boston lost by seven. “I’ve got to do better to get my team over the hump,” Brown told reporters, citing missed free throws, a late turnover and a foul on a shot fake. Derrick White responded that Brown was “being too hard on himself,” adding that the defeat was a team responsibility.
G League Executive Heads to WNBA
Maine Celtics general manager Jarell Christian is departing to join the Seattle Storm as an assistant coach, HoopsHype reported. Christian previously held assistant roles in college basketball, the G League and with the Washington Wizards, and served one season as head coach of both the Capital City Go-Go (2018-19) and Maine Celtics (2021-22).
