Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said he pays little attention to the “Mazzulla Ball” nickname that has followed the team’s three-point-heavy offense in recent seasons.
Speaking with reporters, Mazzulla emphasized that the focus remains on finding “the two-on-one” advantage and executing at both ends of the floor. “I’m not the one who’s playing,” he noted. “It’s the players that are executing. I hope it turns into Celtics basketball.”
The label could become less relevant this season. With Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porziņģis and Al Horford no longer on the roster, and Jayson Tatum expected to miss most of the year, Boston may need to lean more on two-point production.
Assistant coach Sam Cassell recently described the current training camp as the most challenging of his 34-year NBA career. Mazzulla responded by downplaying the remark, calling it a product of “recency bias” and adding, “It depends on where you’re at in the moment.”
