The Cleveland Cavaliers are actively reviewing potential trades involving forward De’Andre Hunter with the NBA’s Feb. 5 deadline fast approaching, according to a report by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

League sources cited in the report believe Hunter is now more likely than not to be dealt, even though Cleveland had previously resisted parting with him for anything less than the sizable package it sent out last season. That prior transaction cost the Cavaliers Caris LeVert, Georges Niang, three second-round picks and two pick swaps.

Multiple teams in mix

The Los Angeles Lakers have held discussions with Cleveland and remain linked to Hunter, the report said. Other unnamed clubs are also involved, while the Brooklyn Nets have emerged as a potential third-team facilitator that could absorb salary in return for draft assets.

Internal debate in Cleveland

Within the Cavaliers’ front office, opinions differ on how to proceed. Some executives are open to moving Hunter’s contract in a structure that might land rookie forward Dalton Knecht from the Lakers, sources told Siegel.

Cleveland is currently above the NBA’s second luxury-tax apron, and any deal would have to account for the franchise’s escalating tax obligations.

Hunter’s production and contract

Hunter, 28, is averaging 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists over 42 games this season. His three-point accuracy sits at 30.9 percent after hitting a career-best 40.5 percent a year ago; his career mark is 36.5 percent.

The forward is owed $23.3 million for the 2025-26 season and $24.9 million for 2026-27, making his salary a significant component of any potential trade calculus.

Talks remain fluid, and multiple scenarios are still under consideration as the deadline approaches.
