The Cleveland Cavaliers relied on Donovan Mitchell’s second-half outburst and a suffocating defense to defeat the Orlando Magic 119-105 on the road Sunday night, securing their sixth win in the last eight games.

Mitchell shook off a cold start and poured in 27 of his 36 points after intermission, scoring 10 in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth. The All-Star guard finished 15-of-30 from the field and added nine assists, five rebounds and two steals as Cleveland improved to 27-20.

The Cavaliers, playing the second night of a back-to-back, struggled offensively before halftime. Mitchell and Evan Mobley combined to shoot 7-for-22 over the first two quarters, but a 44-percent showing from three-point range and a paint-protecting scheme kept Orlando at bay.

Cleveland packed the lane and dared the Magic (23-21) to shoot from deep; Orlando answered with an 11-for-40 mark beyond the arc. The Cavaliers also controlled the interior, limiting second-chance looks and generating transition chances.

Mobley scored 13 points on 4-of-14 shooting yet remained a defensive anchor. The frontcourt effort was complemented by key contributions across the rotation: Jaylon Tyson scored 17 points, Tyrese Proctor added 12 in just under 10 minutes, and Dean Wade went a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor while recording three steals and two blocks.

Orlando was led by Paolo Banchero’s 27 points, with Desmond Bane supplying 20.

The clubs meet again Monday night in Cleveland.
