The Cleveland Cavaliers have picked up the third-year team option on guard/forward Jaylon Tyson, securing the 6-foot-6 rookie through the 2026-27 season, the club announced Wednesday.

Selected 20th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, Tyson spent much of his first season learning behind a crowded rotation. He appeared in 47 games, including three starts, and averaged 3.6 points and 2.0 rebounds across just under 10 minutes per outing.

The 21-year-old delivered his most notable performances late in the schedule. Tyson erupted for 31 points against the Indiana Pacers in April, then posted 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in his first career start versus the New Orleans Pelicans. That effort made him the first Cavaliers rookie since Brad Daugherty in 1987 to reach a 16-11-7-2 stat line.

Tyson also impressed with the G League’s Cleveland Charge, where he averaged 18.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists over eight contests.

By exercising the option, Cleveland signals continued confidence in Tyson’s long-term upside and keeps another young contributor in place alongside one of the NBA’s highest-priced rosters.
