The Cleveland Cavaliers added another name to their expanding injury report, ruling guard Keon Ellis day-to-day with a non-displaced volar plate avulsion in his left index finger.

The team initially labeled the setback a “solar plate” injury but later issued a correction, confirming the proper medical terminology after further evaluation.

Ellis will undergo treatment and ongoing assessment and is officially listed as questionable for upcoming games.

A volar plate avulsion generally occurs when a finger is forcefully hyperextended—often described informally as a jammed finger. Surgery can be necessary if instability persists, though the Cavaliers have not announced any plan for an operation.

Reporter Danny Cunningham posted on X that Ellis, James Harden and Dennis Schroder participated in Cleveland’s morning shoot-around in Detroit on Feb. 27, 2026, while forward Dean Wade was not present.

Ellis was acquired from the Sacramento Kings at the trade deadline alongside Schroder and had been expected to receive an expanded role with Harden sidelined by a thumb fracture. His injury introduces another variable for a roster already managing multiple absences.

On a more positive note, guard Max Strus recently completed his first full-contact practice since suffering a foot injury, indicating progress toward a return.
