The Cleveland Cavaliers may have All-Star guard Darius Garland back in the lineup when they face the Indiana Pacers on Friday night at Rockets Arena.
Garland is questionable after sitting out the past five games with a left great toe injury. Head coach Kenny Atkinson said earlier in the week that the two-time All-Star is “really close” to returning.
The Cavaliers listed two other rotation players on their afternoon injury report. Center Jarrett Allen is questionable with a right finger strain, while rookie wing Jaylon Tyson remains in the NBA’s concussion protocol. Guard Sam Merrill will miss his second straight contest because of a right hand sprain.
Cleveland enters the matchup at 10-6 and is playing its fifth contest of a six-game homestand. Indiana, which eliminated the Cavaliers from the playoffs last spring, arrives at 2-13 and heavily depleted.
The Pacers have been without All-NBA guard Tyrese Haliburton since he ruptured his Achilles in Game 7 of last season’s Finals, and they lost starting center Myles Turner to the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency. Key contributors Aaron Nesmith and Obi Toppin are also sidelined, leaving head coach Rick Carlisle with a makeshift rotation.
Tipoff on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
