Newly appointed Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters that wing Max Strus is “trending positive” and could be available when the Cavaliers open the regular season.

Atkinson did not commit to a definitive timetable but indicated the organization is optimistic about Strus’s progress. The coach added that the team will continue to evaluate the swingman’s status in the days leading up to opening night.

Strus joined Cleveland last summer and became a key part of the rotation, averaging double-figure scoring and providing reliable three-point shooting. His potential return would reinforce a Cavaliers lineup that already features Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.

No additional details on Strus’s condition were disclosed, and Atkinson emphasized that the medical staff will make the final determination on his availability.
