Cleveland, OH / Los Angeles, CA — The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers have engaged in advanced discussions on a deal that would send guard Darius Garland to L.A. in exchange for veteran star James Harden, according to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix.
The proposed swap would involve two former All-Stars. Harden, 36, is averaging 25.4 points across 35.4 minutes per game for the Clippers this season. Garland, 26, has been limited by injuries, missing Cleveland’s first seven contests after offseason toe surgery and sitting out since Jan. 16 with an ankle sprain. He is posting 18.0 points per outing.
Harden was unavailable for Monday’s game, with head coach Tyronn Lue citing personal reasons. While there is no direct indication the absence relates to trade negotiations, it comes just days before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, adding to speculation surrounding his future.
Talks between the two teams were described as “advanced,” but no agreement has been finalized.
