The Cleveland Cavaliers are evaluating whether to pursue free-agent guard Malik Beasley as the club looks for immediate help on the perimeter, according to a report highlighted by SI.com’s Robert Watson III.
Beasley, 27, is coming off a career year with the Detroit Pistons, where he sank 319 three-pointers. That total ranks among the top five single-season marks in NBA history.
Despite the record-setting production, Beasley remains unsigned while the league investigates his possible involvement in a gambling scandal. The probe has reportedly depressed his market value after he spent last season on a one-year “prove-it” contract.
Cleveland’s interest has intensified following news that wing Max Strus will miss three to four months because of injury. Team officials believe Beasley could replace Strus’s outside shooting and potentially provide an upgrade if he maintains his 2024-25 form.
The veteran guard is comfortable coming off the bench; he finished second in Sixth Man of the Year voting last season. A reserve unit featuring Beasley alongside Lonzo Ball, Larry Nance Jr. and Sam Merrill is viewed internally as a possible strength, the report added.
Any pursuit hinges on the outcome of the NBA investigation. If Beasley is cleared, the Cavaliers are expected to give serious thought to adding the high-volume shooter.
