WASHINGTON — Cleveland Cavaliers forward Dean Wade was ruled out shortly before Wednesday night’s home game against the Miami Heat after spraining his ankle during warmups.

According to Cleveland.com reporter Chris Fedor, the 27-year-old landed on a ball boy’s foot while finishing a routine layup. Wade immediately grabbed his right ankle and limped to the locker room, where trainers evaluated him. The team later listed him as questionable but opted to keep him sidelined as a precaution.

The late setback adds to an already crowded Cavaliers injury report. Center Jarrett Allen (knee tendinitis), guard/forward Max Strus (foot injury management), rookie Jaylon Tyson (toe bone bruise) and guard Craig Porter Jr. (groin) were all unavailable. Forward Larry Nance Jr., who had been dealing with an illness, was cleared to play.

Wade has appeared in 57 games this season, including 36 starts, averaging 5.8 points and 4.2 rebounds. His absence further shortens Cleveland’s rotation as the club continues its push toward the postseason.
