Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen left Tuesday night’s 113-109 victory over the Detroit Pistons with a right-knee issue that head coach Kenny Atkinson described as a knee-to-knee collision. The club has not yet provided a formal diagnosis and is still gathering information on the injury.

Allen exited midway through the third quarter after banging knees with an opponent while fighting for a rebound. Speaking to reporters postgame, Atkinson said, “He got a knee-to-knee. That’s the only update I got.”

The 25-year-old center offered a brief reassurance in the locker room, telling the Associated Press, “I’ll be all right.” Allen has already played through a broken finger on his left hand and a strain in a finger on his right hand this season.

“He wants to play every game, especially as well as he’s playing,” Atkinson noted. Since Feb. 1, Allen is averaging 21.0 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 72 percent from the field, a run that earned him a nomination for Eastern Conference Player of the Month in February.

Atkinson added that impact injuries such as Tuesday’s are difficult to anticipate. “The soft-tissue injuries are the ones where you’re like, man, that’s overuse,” he said. “The hits like that, you can’t really avoid.”

The Cavaliers do not play again until Sunday, when they host the Boston Celtics, giving Allen and other injured players four full days to recover.
