The Cleveland Cavaliers will attempt to rebound from Wednesday’s 128-122 loss to the Orlando Magic when they visit the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night.

Cleveland enters the matchup at 40-26, holding the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference but searching for sharper defense after recent slip-ups. Head coach Kenny Atkinson said tightening that end of the floor is an immediate priority.

Dallas, 34-32, halted an eight-game losing streak on Thursday by defeating the Memphis Grizzlies. The spotlight in Dallas continues to shine on rookie forward Cooper Flagg, who is posting 20.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while showcasing the versatile skill set that made him one of the league’s most anticipated newcomers.

The Cavaliers will lean on the trio of Donovan Mitchell, James Harden and Evan Mobley as they push toward the postseason. Center Jarrett Allen is set to miss his fourth consecutive game.

Friday’s contest is the first half of a home-and-home set; the two clubs meet again Sunday in Cleveland.
