The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached an agreement with free-agent point guard Killian Hayes, according to a post from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Contract terms were not announced, but the arrangement is expected to be a training-camp deal rather than a guaranteed spot on the opening-night roster.

The move brings Cleveland’s roster to 16 players, leaving the club five short of the 21-man limit allowed for NBA training camps. Hayes, 24, had drawn strong interest from overseas teams this offseason—most notably ASVEL Basket in France, along with Real Madrid in Spain and Anadolu Efes in Turkey—but remained focused on securing another NBA opportunity.

Selected seventh overall by Detroit in the 2020 draft, the 6-5 guard logged 216 regular-season games over five years with the Pistons and Nets, shooting 38.2% from the field and 27.7% from three during his four seasons in Detroit. After being waived by the Pistons, Hayes appeared in six games (five starts) for Brooklyn last season, averaging 9.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 27.0 minutes while hitting 38.1% of his attempts from beyond the arc.

Hayes spent most of the 2024-25 campaign with the G League’s Long Island Nets, where he posted 17.3 points, 7.4 assists and 5.4 rebounds across 33 outings, shooting 46.3% overall and 37.1% from deep. Because he has surpassed the service-time limit for two-way contracts, the French guard must earn a standard roster spot to remain in the NBA.
