Golden State’s victory on Monday night came at a cost after forward Jimmy Butler departed midway through the third quarter with a right knee injury during the road game against the Miami Heat.
The 36-year-old was bumped while leaping for a pass, landed awkwardly on his right leg and immediately cried out in pain. He remained on the floor for several minutes before teammates and medical staff helped him to the locker room; he was unable to put weight on the injured knee.
ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported that Butler underwent an MRI Monday night. Results had not been released at the time of publication.
“Praying for the best, as far as scans,” Stephen Curry said after the game.
Butler’s right knee has a history of problems. He tore the meniscus in 2018 and suffered an MCL sprain last season. Entering Monday, he was averaging 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists while shooting 51 percent from the field. He is under contract through the 2026-27 season and is owed more than $110 million over this season and next.
The Warriors improved to 25-19 with the win, continuing their recent surge, but now await further word on one of their key contributors.
