The Chicago Bulls expect to be without Tre Jones for a minimum of two weeks after the point guard was diagnosed with a strained left hamstring, the club announced Friday in a press release. Jones will be re-evaluated at the end of that period.

The injury removes a key ball-handler from head coach Billy Donovan’s rotation. Jones, 26, has appeared in 38 games (20 starts) during his first full season with Chicago, averaging 12.4 points, 5.8 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals across 26.8 minutes per contest.

While he is shooting 32.8% from three on 1.7 attempts, Jones has converted 60.9% of his two-point shots and 84.8% of his free throws. His assist-to-turnover ratio stands at 4.3-to-1.

Jones played in Thursday’s road win over Minnesota, Chicago’s third straight victory, and the injury is believed to have occurred during that game. Without him, the Bulls are 2-4 this season and now project to be without their sixth-year guard for at least eight games. If his absence extends through the All-Star break, the total could reach 11 games.

Josh Giddey, who returned Thursday after missing 11 games with a left hamstring strain of his own, is expected to assume greater play-making duties while Jones recovers.
