The Chicago Bulls will lift Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey to the United Center rafters on January 24, 2026, the team announced in a press release.

The ceremony is scheduled for a Saturday matchup against the Boston Celtics, according to the club’s newly released 2025-26 schedule. Chicago first revealed its intention to honor Rose during “Derrick Rose Night” in January but had not provided a date until now.

Rose, 36, stepped away from the NBA last September after 15 seasons. The Chicago native spent his first eight years with the Bulls, becoming the league’s youngest Most Valuable Player in 2011 and earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2009. He was an All-Star in three consecutive seasons from 2010-12.

Across 406 regular-season games with Chicago, the former No. 1 overall draft pick averaged 19.7 points, 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 44.8% from the field. A torn ACL sidelined him for the entire 2012-13 campaign and limited him to 10 games the following year.

Rose will become the fifth Bulls player to have his number retired, joining Jerry Sloan (4), Bob Love (10), Michael Jordan (23) and Scottie Pippen (33). Banners for former head coach Phil Jackson and former general manager Jerry Krause also hang at the arena.

The guard’s 2011 MVP award while still on his rookie contract led to the league’s unofficial “Derrick Rose rule,” which allows certain young stars to sign maximum deals worth up to 30% of the salary cap.
