Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey broke his silence Friday on last week’s dismissal of executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley. Speaking after missing a week with a lingering hamstring injury that will keep him out of the final five games of the 2025/26 season, Giddey said he understood the business side of the decision but appreciated what the two had done for him since his arrival.
Giddey, 23, also voiced strong support for head coach Billy Donovan, who is scheduled to meet with ownership once the regular season ends. “He’s been awesome. I couldn’t speak highly enough about him. I hope he’s here for a long time,” the guard said.
The Australian guard characterized his own year as “up and down” individually and emphasized that his next step is “finding ways to impact winning.”
Locker-Room Endorsements for Donovan
Second-year forward Matas Buzelis echoed Giddey’s sentiment. Recovering from illness, Buzelis said he phoned Donovan immediately after learning of the front-office changes. “I told him I hope you don’t leave. I’m riding with you forever,” the 20-year-old forward said, calling Donovan a “cornerstone” for his career.
Amid the endorsements, longtime Chicago columnist Scoop Jackson argued Donovan should consider leaving the organization entirely, suggesting the 60-year-old coach may receive stronger job offers elsewhere.
Trade Acquisitions Making an Impression
Forward Leonard Miller, included in the midseason deal that sent Ayo Dosunmu to Minnesota, is strengthening his case for a long-term roster spot. Over the past 17 games, the 22-year-old Canadian is averaging 14.6 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 53.8% from the field and 35.8% from three in 28.0 minutes a night. Chicago holds a $2.4 million team option on Miller for 2026/27.
Fellow acquisition Rob Dillingham said he plans to add muscle and focus on decision-making during the offseason. The second-year guard, formerly of Kentucky, intends to spend the summer studying film ahead of his third NBA campaign.
