Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey will be sidelined for at least a few weeks after an MRI revealed a left hamstring strain, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The team initially listed the injury as hamstring tightness before confirming the strain through its public relations staff, The Athletic’s Joel Lorenzi reported.
The 23-year-old floor general, acquired from the Oklahoma City Thunder before last season, is in the midst of a career-best campaign. Through 29 appearances, Giddey is averaging 19.2 points, 9.0 assists and 8.9 rebounds, leading Chicago in all three categories.
Chicago enters the final stretch of 2025 with a 15-17 record. After winning five consecutive games, the club dropped its last two and sits ninth in the Eastern Conference, a spot that would place it in the play-in tournament if the season ended today.
Giddey’s absence compounds a rough week for the Bulls’ training staff. Coby White aggravated a right calf injury Monday, and Zach Collins is dealing with a toe issue; both are expected to miss multiple contests. With the starting backcourt out, head coach Billy Donovan will lean on Tre Jones, Ayo Dosunmu, Kevin Huerter and Jevon Carter to handle ball-handling duties.
The Australian guard’s long-term status is secured. After a prolonged restricted free-agency negotiation over the summer, Giddey finalized a four-year, $100 million extension before training camp.
If Chicago decides to pivot toward selling assets ahead of the trade deadline, it holds several expiring contracts. Nikola Vucevic, Collins, Huerter, White, Dosunmu and Carter are all in the final year of their deals.
