The Chicago Bulls have removed Arturas Karnisovas, executive vice president of basketball operations, and Marc Eversley, general manager, the team announced Monday.
In a statement released with the decision, team CEO and president Michael Reinsdorf thanked both executives for six years of work but said the organization “has not had the success our fans deserve,” adding that the move is aimed at “positioning our team for sustained success.”
Karnisovas and Eversley were hired in 2020 to rejuvenate a franchise that last won an NBA title in 1998. Chicago improved from 31-41 in 2020-21 to 46-36 the next season, yet finished below .500 the last three years with win totals of 40, 39 and 39. The Bulls are 29-49 this season after deadline trades signaled another rebuild, extending the club’s streak to 11 consecutive seasons without a playoff series victory.
ESPN’s Bobby Marks noted the incoming front office could have roughly $65 million in cap space and a lottery pick to reshape the roster this offseason.
The firings also cast doubt on the future of head coach Billy Donovan, who was linked to the North Carolina vacancy before the school hired former Nuggets coach Michael Malone on Monday.
Reinsdorf is expected to speak with reporters Tuesday. During the search for new leadership, Reinsdorf, senior advisor John Paxson, and executives Brian Hagen, Pat Connelly, and JJ Polk will jointly oversee basketball operations.
