Chicago Bulls swingman Dalen Terry is not expected to reach a rookie-scale extension before the 2025/26 season tips off, according to a report by Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Terry’s representatives and the team have held no substantive negotiations, the report states. The 23-year-old remains eligible to sign an extension until October 20.
The former first-round pick is entering the fourth and final season of his rookie contract, which will pay approximately $5.4 million in 2025/26. Chicago could keep him under team control next summer by issuing a qualifying offer and making him a restricted free agent, though that decision appears uncertain given his production to date.
Selected 18th overall in the 2022 draft after two seasons at Arizona, the 6-foot-7 guard/forward has yet to secure a consistent rotation role. He appeared in a career-high 73 games last season, averaging 4.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 13.5 minutes per game.
Seeking a fresh start, Terry changed his jersey number from 25 to 7 and acknowledged that 2025/26 will be pivotal for his career. He told Cowley he is modeling his approach on former Bulls guard Alex Caruso, focusing on defense and connective play rather than scoring volume.
