CHICAGO — One walkthrough and seven fresh faces were all the Bulls had before facing the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, yet the hastily assembled group still carried a seven-point lead into the fourth quarter.

“We definitely can be very special,” guard Collin Sexton said after his Chicago debut, according to the Chicago Tribune. “For us to have one walk-through and go out there pretty much jelling, making the right reads, doing this together, it was super fun. At the end of the day, I know something good is coming.”

The Bulls executed seven trades ahead of last week’s deadline, a flurry that executives insist is a transitional step rather than a full rebuild. The overhaul came after the club had dropped five of its previous six games and grown weary of life on the play-in bubble.

Head coach Billy Donovan said the changes gave second-year forward Matas Buzelis an early lesson in the NBA’s business side. “He got a taste of this league as a business,” Donovan noted, adding that the 20-year-old was still processing the moves.

“It’s tough,” Buzelis acknowledged. “You lose your brothers. But I’m happy to see these guys here. I think we can make it work. Those relationships don’t go away.”

Inside the organization, management views Buzelis as a cornerstone and is expected to make additional roster decisions this summer to accelerate the plan.
