Bucks Shut Door on Blockbuster Talks, Rockets GM Says

Houston Rockets general manager Rafael Stone said Milwaukee’s front office showed no interest in engaging on a major trade proposal, despite widespread speculation involving two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Speaking Friday on ESPN Radio’s Houston affiliate, Stone explained that his discussions with Bucks GM Jon Horst never gained traction. “Jon was very clear that they weren’t doing anything,” Stone told the hosts, while league rules prevented him from naming Antetokounmpo directly.

Antetokounmpo has been linked to trade rumors since Milwaukee’s first-round playoff exit, yet multiple reports indicate the Bucks will only consider moving him if he asks out. The 30-year-old star is preparing to represent Greece at EuroBasket, which concludes a few weeks before NBA training camps open, leaving little time for a late-offseason trade request.

The forward is under contract through the 2026-27 season and holds a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28.

Horst has reshaped the roster in hopes of keeping Milwaukee in championship contention. After Damian Lillard suffered a season-ending Achilles tear, the Bucks waived and stretched the $112.6 million remaining on Lillard’s deal over the next two years, creating cap space to sign center Myles Turner away from the Indiana Pacers.

Milwaukee also signed free agents Gary Harris, Jericho Sims and Cole Anthony, while retaining Bobby Portis, Gary Trent Jr., Kevin Porter Jr., Ryan Rollins and Taurean Prince.
