Milwaukee forward Pete Nance is three games away from exhausting the 50-game allowance tied to his two-way contract, putting the Bucks in a roster-management bind with 14 regular-season contests remaining.
The 26-year-old delivered one of his strongest performances of the year in Tuesday’s 123-116 loss at Cleveland, finishing with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, seven rebounds and two blocks. Nance posted a plus-7 rating in 30 minutes, marking his 29th consecutive appearance and 47th overall this season.
Under NBA rules, a two-way player can be active for a maximum of 50 games. To keep Nance available beyond three more outings, Milwaukee would have to convert him to a standard contract, but the club’s 15-man roster is currently full.
Most two-way promotions occur between the trade deadline and March 4, allowing teams to preserve flexibility for deals and refill two-way slots before the signing cutoff. Moving a player up after March 4 requires leaving one two-way spot vacant for the rest of the season—an option many teams, including the slumping Bucks, are reluctant to pursue.
Other Two-Way Players Approaching Their Limits
Across the league, several two-way players also have fewer than 10 eligible games left:
4 games remaining: Moussa Cisse (Mavericks), JD Davison (Rockets), Tyrese Martin (Sixers)
5 games remaining: Caleb Love (Trail Blazers), David Roddy (Nuggets)
6 games remaining: Tristan Enaruna (Cavaliers), Blake Hinson (Jazz), Rayan Rupert (Grizzlies), Payton Sandfort (Thunder), Dalen Terry (Sixers)
7 games remaining: Norchad Omier (Clippers), Nate Williams (Warriors)
8 games remaining: Patrick Baldwin Jr. (Kings), Jamal Cain (Magic), Julian Reese (Wizards)
9 games remaining: Trevor Keels (Heat), KJ Simpson (Nuggets), Jalen Slawson (Pacers), Ethan Thompson (Pacers), Chris Youngblood (Trail Blazers)
Some players on the list, such as Sandfort, signed recently and were never expected to hit the limit. Others, including Cisse and Davison, have already seen their minutes reduced to avoid surpassing the cap. Teams with open roster spots—namely Utah, Golden State and Orlando—could still elevate contributors like Hinson, Williams or Cain before the April 12 deadline.
The Bucks have not indicated whether they will clear space to keep Nance active, leaving his immediate future uncertain as Milwaukee clings to slim postseason hopes.
