Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson reiterated his desire to remain in New York for the balance of his career, telling the New York Post he “would love to be here for the rest of my career” after previously stating he hoped the club would “do right by me” in future contract talks.
“They’ve welcomed me with open arms,” Brunson said. “I built a life here … I’d love to stay.” He clarified that his earlier comment was not a demand but a hope the organization recognizes the financial sacrifice he made when he originally signed. Brunson becomes eligible for an extension in the summer of 2027 and could reach free agency in 2028.
Rotation Updates
Karl-Anthony Towns has drawn criticism from portions of the fan base during an uneven shooting season, yet his overall production remains higher than many realize, according to the Post. New York’s struggles against elite Eastern Conference opponents mirror last season, when the club went 1–6 versus Detroit and Boston before eliminating both teams in the playoffs.
Consistent two-way play from Landry Shamet is reshaping coach Mike Brown’s late-game lineups. Shamet has closed three contests this month in place of Mikal Bridges. “You’ve just got to sacrifice, find your moments and play the right way,” Bridges said. Brown noted he has recently trimmed starters’ minutes while increasing bench involvement: “If somebody is playing well, we’ll try to keep them on the floor … others will see their field-goal attempts and their minutes go down.”
Recently acquired forward Jeremy Sochan acknowledged early struggles while adjusting to the Knicks’ system. “It’s my first time adjusting to a different dynamic,” he said. Sochan, who logged five scoreless minutes in Tuesday’s loss to Cleveland, added that learning teammates’ tendencies will take time.
Brown believes Guerschon Yabusele’s optimum NBA role is at small-ball center, a position with limited openings in New York. “We just didn’t have the minutes consistently for him there,” the coach explained, adding that matchup issues also limited Yabusele’s opportunities at power forward. There is speculation the French forward already has a lucrative overseas agreement in place for next season.
