The Brooklyn Nets are releasing third-year guard Kobe Bufkin, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The move was reported on Oct. 19, 2025.

Brooklyn acquired Bufkin from the Atlanta Hawks earlier this offseason in exchange for $110,000 in cash considerations. He joined a crowded backcourt that already featured first-round picks Ben Saraf, Egor Demin and Nolan Traore from the 2025 NBA Draft.

Injuries have hampered the 2023 No. 15 overall pick throughout his career, limiting him to 27 regular-season appearances over two years with Atlanta. During that span, he posted averages of 5.0 points and 1.6 assists in 11.9 minutes per game.

Bufkin saw limited action with Brooklyn during the preseason, logging 10.9 minutes in each of his two games and producing 7.0 points on .364 field-goal shooting, including a .375 mark from three-point range and .600 at the foul line.

ESPN front-office insider Bobby Marks noted the waiver helps Brooklyn reach the NBA’s salary floor while finalizing required roster reductions. Falling short of the floor would have cost the Nets an estimated $12.8 million in projected luxury-tax distribution.

Bufkin will become an unrestricted free agent once he clears waivers.
