Three of the NBA’s biggest storylines shifted over the weekend, with positive injury news for the Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs.
Suns guard Devin Booker participates fully in practice
Devin Booker completed every drill in Friday’s workout and practiced again Saturday without restriction, interim coach Jordan Ott told reporters. The All-Star guard has missed the last three games because of a right groin strain but could be cleared for Sunday’s matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Responding well,” Ott said of Booker’s back-to-back sessions. “That’s encouraging. No issues.”
Knicks unbeaten since OG Anunoby’s return
New York is 3–0 since OG Anunoby came back from a hamstring strain earlier this month. Dating to his mid-season arrival in 2023-24, the Knicks are 76–36 when the forward plays and 25–20 when he sits, according to the New York Post.
“OG was all over the place,” Josh Hart said after Tuesday’s win in Toronto. “He really helped start that run.”
Meanwhile, Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown, continuing to campaign for Jalen Brunson’s MVP candidacy, said the point guard’s impact is “franchise-altering.”
Victor Wembanyama listed as probable for Spurs
Rookie center Victor Wembanyama is expected to appear in Saturday’s NBA Cup semifinal against the Oklahoma City Thunder after being labeled probable. The 7-foot-4 star has not played since Nov. 14 because of a left calf strain.
“He’s going to be tired,” acting head coach Mitch Johnson said, anticipating an “early sub” and fewer minutes than usual.
Wembanyama acknowledged he pushed to return sooner but deferred to team doctors. He also praised San Antonio’s 9–3 record during his absence: “Everybody can step up. It’s beautiful to see.”
