Scottsdale, Ariz. — Newly released body-worn camera video indicates Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks displayed no measurable blood-alcohol content during a DUI arrest early Friday morning.
Officers with the Scottsdale Police Department stopped the 30-year-old around 2 a.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to the footage and reports from Arizona Sports, Brooks blew a 0.0 on a roadside breath test, leading officers to suspect impairment from marijuana instead of alcohol.
One officer can be heard telling Brooks the vehicle “smells like a dispensary.” Throughout the encounter, the veteran forward remained cooperative.
Brooks, who fractured his hand on Feb. 21, asked officers to consider the injury while applying handcuffs. During the ride to the station, he remarked to an officer, “I’m really in a car with you watching you drive and you’re doing the exact same thing that I’m doing.”
The Suns wing had been averaging a career-best 20.9 points per game before the injury sidelined him. Phoenix entered Friday with a 35-27 record, and team officials expect Brooks to miss several more weeks while he recovers.
