Portland Trail Blazers guard Blake Wesley is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks following successful surgery to repair a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot, the team announced today.

The 21-year-old will begin rehabilitation immediately, according to the club’s statement. The projected timeline means the earliest possible return would come near the end of the calendar year.

Wesley had been ruled out indefinitely after suffering the injury, but he had shown strong form in his first six appearances with Portland, serving as a primary reserve while fellow guard Scoot Henderson remains sidelined by a hamstring strain.

Signed to a one-year, fully guaranteed deal this summer, Wesley joined the Trail Blazers after three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, where he averaged 4.3 points and 2.4 assists in 14.3 minutes per game.

With Wesley and Henderson both unavailable — and Damian Lillard already lost for the season — Portland turned to two-way players Sidy Cissoko and rookie Caleb Love for backcourt minutes in the team’s most recent game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
