Washington Wizards swingman Bilal Coulibaly is projected to be sidelined for multiple weeks after sustaining an oblique strain, according to The Athletic’s Josh Robbins.

While the team has not issued an official timetable, Post Sports reporter Varun Shankar wrote on X that recoveries from oblique strains typically require a weeks-long absence.

Coulibaly was hurt during Tuesday’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers and remained on the court for roughly nine additional minutes before checking out. The French rookie has struggled to stay on the floor this season, missing eight of Washington’s first 20 games. He sat out the opening stretch while rehabbing a torn ligament in his thumb and later missed four contests with a left calf contusion.

Offensively, the 2023 first-round pick is averaging 8.8 points and shooting .374 from the field, .268 from three-point range and .771 at the foul line. Despite the modest scoring numbers, Robbins noted that Coulibaly’s perimeter defense has been crucial for the Wizards, whose defense ranks last in the NBA. The club is already without rookie center Alex Sarr, sidelined by an adductor strain.
