Beverley Claims Warriors Could Have Collected More Rings With Paul George Instead of Klay Thompson

NBA guard Patrick Beverley said the Golden State Warriors might have captured additional championships if Paul George had occupied the roster spot held by Klay Thompson.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone, Beverley argued that substituting George for Thompson alongside Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala would have made Golden State even more dominant.

“If you put Paul George in that role playing as Klay Thompson … I think that Golden State probably wins more championships,” Beverley said, noting George’s finish in the MVP race a few seasons ago.

George, 33, is a nine-time All-Star, six-time All-NBA selection and four-time All-Defensive honoree. Thompson, 34, owns four NBA titles, five consecutive All-Star appearances from 2015 to 2019 and is widely regarded as one half of the league’s most lethal backcourt shooting tandem with Curry.

Thompson’s long-range shooting and track record in elimination games have been central to the Warriors’ four championships since 2015. Beverley’s hypothetical, however, leans on George’s broader résumé and two-way versatility as potential factors for an even larger title haul.

The Warriors won their most recent championship in 2022, while George has yet to reach an NBA Finals despite deep playoff runs with the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers.
