Free-agent guard Ben Simmons says he intends to play in the NBA again this season—provided his body reaches full strength.

In an interview with Marc J. Spears of Andscape, the three-time All-Star explained that he is training twice a day, six days a week, and will not suit up until he feels “100 percent.”

“I can go out and play and probably do really well,” Simmons said. “But I want to get my body to the best it’s been. I don’t think it’s good for anybody if I’m out there and I’m not 100 percent.”

The 28-year-old noted that back problems remain his primary concern. He has undergone two procedures and adopted a new rehabilitation program that he believes is finally paying dividends. Simmons added that he has experienced no setbacks to date.

Simmons appeared in 51 games last season, splitting time between Brooklyn and Los Angeles. That marked his highest total since his 2020-21 All-Star campaign, yet he said he “could barely really move” the way he wanted throughout the year.

The Australian native rejoined Klutch Sports this offseason, signing again with agent Rich Paul after separating from Bernie Lee. Simmons emphasized that the decision was driven by his commitment to focus solely on getting healthy.

Asked for a possible timetable, he suggested a debut “maybe halfway through this year, if not next season.” He stressed that the comeback is not about silencing critics but about feeling right on the court for the first time in years.
