Dallas, TX — Mavericks center Anthony Davis will return to action Friday night when Dallas visits the Los Angeles Lakers, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

The 32-year-old has been sidelined since Oct. 29 with a left calf strain, missing 14 consecutive games. After practicing Wednesday, Davis had been listed as questionable for the first leg of Dallas’ back-to-back in Los Angeles. Team medical staff ruled out the possibility of him playing both contests, so Friday’s matchup against his former club was selected over Saturday’s game against the Clippers.

“You know what game I want to play,” Davis said with a grin earlier this week when asked which night he preferred.

Davis has yet to appear at Crypto.com Arena as a Maverick since being acquired from the Lakers in February. His comeback arrives at a critical juncture for Dallas, which has dropped 11 of its last 14 games and sits 5-14, the second-worst record in the Western Conference. The Mavericks have also been without guards Kyrie Irving and Dante Exum and rookie big man Dereck Lively II because of long-term injuries.

Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont reportedly urged a cautious approach to Davis’ recovery, hoping to prevent any setback to the All-Star big man. Dallas went 2-3 with Davis in the lineup before the injury.
