Washington Wizards forward-center Anthony Davis, sidelined since January 8 with ligament damage in his left hand, has been cleared to begin limited individual on-court drills, the team announced Wednesday.
The 10-time All-Star was examined in Los Angeles, where medical staff noted continued progress. The Wizards plan to reevaluate Davis in two weeks and will provide another update at that time.
Washington acquired Davis and guard Trae Young in mid-season trades while both veterans were injured, aiming to build toward the 2026-27 season and protect the club’s top-eight-protected 2026 first-round pick. Young is expected to make his Wizards debut Thursday after recovering from quad and knee issues.
General manager Will Dawkins said after the February 8 trade deadline that he anticipated Davis, 32, would appear in a game before the 2025-26 campaign concludes. With less than six weeks remaining in the current season and Washington sitting at 16-45, the organization has emphasized caution and has not set a firm return date for Davis.
According to Wednesday’s statement, Davis has not yet been cleared for scrimmages or full-contact work. The forthcoming evaluation should clarify whether he could take the court before season’s end.
