Former Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis said he was “blindsided” by the franchise’s decision to trade him in the deal that brought Luka Doncic to Los Angeles.
Speaking on “The Draymond Green Show,” Davis explained that the organization offered no advance notice before the agreement became public. “From the business standpoint I can’t be mad, but like why?” he told host Draymond Green. “Nobody told me anything. Nobody said a thing to me.”
Davis emphasized that the short notice stung after five seasons with the Lakers, a stretch that included the 2020 NBA championship. According to the eight-time All-Star, the first and only call from team officials came moments before the news broke. “I think I deserve much more respect than that,” he said. “All the time I’ve been there, we won a championship, and I can’t get a phone call or a text?”
He added that the lack of communication has continued to bother him. “It never got to me like, ‘Hey, this is what we’re thinking,’” Davis said. “That’s the biggest thing that messed with me this entire time.”
