Dallas Mavericks center Anthony Davis has been cleared to play Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers, ending a 14-game absence caused by a left calf strain sustained on Oct. 29, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The 30-year-old practiced earlier this week and was initially listed as questionable for the Mavericks’ two-game trip to Los Angeles. Medical staff ruled out the possibility of Davis appearing in both matchups—Friday versus the Lakers and Saturday against the Clippers—opting to limit him to one contest.

Asked Wednesday which game he preferred, Davis smiled and replied, “That’s a real question? You know what game I want to play,” reporters from The Dallas Morning News noted.

Friday’s meeting at Crypto.com Arena will mark Davis’s first game in the venue as a Maverick since the February trade that sent him out of Los Angeles.

Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont reportedly urged a cautious recovery plan to avoid re-aggravation, delaying Davis’s return despite the team’s struggles. Dallas went 2-3 with him in the lineup and has dropped 11 of 14 games since, falling to 5-14—the second-worst record in the Western Conference. The club is also managing long-term injuries to Kyrie Irving and Dante Exum, along with foot and knee issues for rookie center Dereck Lively II.

Davis’s return offers Dallas a much-needed boost as the team looks to stabilize a roster hit hard by injuries.
