Dallas Mavericks star forward-center Anthony Davis is dealing with a minor groin strain and will be re-evaluated each day, ESPN insider Shams Charania reported on December 26.

Davis exited the Mavericks’ Christmas Day contest against the Golden State Warriors after suffering the injury and did not return. Charania indicated that the team plans to stick with its usual cautious approach regarding the 32-year-old’s timeline, meaning he is expected to miss several games.

According to Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News, Davis will participate in daily workouts as part of his recovery program in hopes of returning to game action quickly.

The eight-time All-Star had recently rejoined the lineup after sitting out 14 consecutive games earlier this season with a left calf strain. In the six games since his comeback, he averaged 26.3 points and 12.8 rebounds, helping Dallas post a 6-2 record that included victories over Houston, Detroit, and Denver.

Charania also noted that Davis could be a key figure as the trade deadline approaches, particularly in light of the Mavericks’ uneven first half and the earlier dismissal of former general manager Nico Harrison.
