Dallas Mavericks center Anthony Davis has started limited on-court activity as he rehabs ligament damage in his left hand, according to Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com.
Davis, back in Dallas after initial treatment, is performing light drills while wearing a protective glove on his non-shooting hand. The team hopes the injury will heal without surgery, and the current timeline projects approximately six weeks before he can rejoin full practices. That schedule would keep him out through the All-Star break and likely into late February.
The Mavericks are moving cautiously because this marks Davis’s second extended absence of the season. He missed most of November with a calf strain and later dealt with a groin issue, limiting him to fewer than half of the club’s games to date.
When available, the 30-year-old big man has averaged more than 20 points and double-digit rebounds while anchoring both ends of the floor. Despite his absence, he has remained around the roster—along with fellow sidelined star Kyrie Irving—providing leadership during practices and games.
Dallas has responded with a 5-1 record over its past six contests, stabilizing after a difficult stretch earlier in the campaign.
