The San Antonio Spurs will be without two-way forward David Jones Garcia for the remainder of the season after the 24-year-old underwent surgery on his right ankle, the team confirmed through multiple reports.

Jones Garcia sustained the injury in January while playing for the Austin Spurs in a G League matchup against the South Bay Lakers. He continued to appear in games until aggravating the ankle on a drive to the basket last Thursday. No official timetable for recovery has been announced.

Following the procedure, Jones Garcia shared a photo from his hospital bed on Instagram with the caption, “All Glory To The Man Above.”

“You never want to see anyone go down,” Austin head coach Jacob Chance said. “I thought he was kind of finding a little bit of a rhythm. He came back in the last game from his concussion and took some possessions to get going.”

Strong G League Showing

Before the injury, Jones Garcia was averaging 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists across 11 regular-season appearances for Austin. His performance earned him a spot among seven G League players selected for the Rising Stars event at next week’s All-Star Weekend.

Limited NBA Minutes

With San Antonio, the 6-foot-6 small forward logged 11 games this season, posting 2.9 points per contest in limited action. He split last year between two-way contracts with the Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz before signing his current deal with the Spurs in July following an impressive Summer League run.

NBA teams have until March 4 to add players on two-way contracts, giving San Antonio an opportunity to fill the vacant roster spot created by Jones Garcia’s season-ending injury.
