A string of missed games has not damaged Darryn Peterson’s reputation among NBA talent evaluators, according to a report by the New York Post. The Kansas freshman, projected as a high lottery selection and a potential No. 1 pick, has sat out 11 contests and exited others early, yet league scouts still expect him to be chosen within the top three picks.
Draft Class Viewed as Thin
John Hollinger of The Athletic notes that the 2024 NBA draft class, widely considered weak before the season, has largely confirmed those concerns. Hollinger identifies only San Antonio’s Stephon Castle and Washington’s Alex Sarr as rookies currently ranking among their respective teams’ three best players. Donovan Clingan, Kel’el Ware, Jaylon Tyson and Ajay Mitchell are the only other first-year players Hollinger views as legitimate starters at this stage.
Eastern Conference Playoff Picture Wide Open
Several front-office executives told ESPN’s Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst that the Eastern Conference lacks a prohibitive favorite despite Detroit’s impressive record. One general manager estimated that six or seven clubs could realistically reach the NBA Finals, while a team president predicted “real fallout” for two or three organizations that fail to advance to the conference finals.
Yurtseven Leaves Panathinaikos
Center Omer Yurtseven, who previously spent parts of three seasons with the Heat and Jazz, has departed Panathinaikos BC. The Turkish big man averaged 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in EuroLeague play but struggled to carve out a consistent role with the Greek powerhouse.
Richardson Exits Zaragoza
Veteran wing Josh Richardson and Spain’s Casademont Zaragoza have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. The 10-year NBA veteran, who joined the Spanish side on Jan. 23, averaged 9.6 points across five combined appearances in the FIBA Europe Cup and Liga Endesa.
